Title: Hacking Goons!
Morkskittar - March 23, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
As some of you noticed, MP was apparently hacked yesterday. I wasn't around when it happened, and so managed to miss it, and learned about it when I had condolences sent to me via MSN about it (I was very confused... :P). Well, as you can see, we're fine.
These 'goon' people were not really hackers... merely people with nolife who decide to screw around with Invisionfree and shut down their servers via (probably) overloading them. There was no damage done - Invisionfree's servers were merely shut down (numerous other IF sites were also down... including our own dear host, The Underempire).
So, in conclusion, nothing has changed. Carry on. :P

I think they specifically hit the underempire - Dok Warz wasn't down, and neither was the invisionfree domain of this site, but the underempire domain of this was, as well as the underempire itself was down.

Ni, I know a few other sites, such as the invisionfree hompage was also down.

URL:
http://support.invisionfree.com/index.php?showtopic=452358If you read the post linked towards, it seems that any Invisionfree board using a custom domain (such as the UnderEmpire, instead of their designated s6.invisionfree. etc. domain), were temporarily defaced due to a security breach.
This has nothing to do with UE.net/ MP personally...
... So, we can all sleep safely once again. :P

Ah - that explains why Dok Warz/our other site weren't hit then, thanks :)

Mork, im afraid I have to contradict you... they are hackers. They also have no life though, like most hackers. Many sites were involved in the hijack, including goons, 4chan and the partyvan. Partyvan and 4chan have hacked many sites... including their own when they got bored. They are pricks. They just hacked the paid domains on invisionfree.

I don't consider them hackers. :P They're losers... not all hackes are losers. They're not cool enough to be hackers... :P

Hey, there's actually a big difference between hackers and what people call hackers. the "real" hackers is the masterminds of teh internets, those early geeks who came up with larpanet etc. They do constructive things! Good things! They create stuff! and so on...
What took down IF some days ago was Crackers, the opposite of the hacker. They destroy stuff, etc. The thing is that media etc has used the term hacker instead of cracker so often that most people don't know the difference. :)

I have to agree crackers often do mindless disruption to distract from what actually has been done. It has been noted the security log from certain sites have been tampered with in the past and then affiliated site (via the provider) have gone down to distract from this act.
