Title: New Rules

Morkskittar - March 2, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
Hello all, and welcome back after a long and arduous maintenance!

For me, at least. :P

Anyway, there have been some rule changes. Most of them are more adjustments in the charts, but there are some rules that will affect you.

The first major change involved Research and Training. These two things (especially research) will no longer be an order you can write in a minute and throw over to Research/Training, saying "I want to research exploding penguins using a shard of Warpstone!" How the muffins do you plan to accomplish that? From this point on, all Researches sent MUST have included an at least half-thought out procedure attached to them, describing how you are going to go about performing this research. It must make sense, be logical, and the materials you include must be sufficient. I will send researches back if they fail to meet these requirements.

Training also now requires a method of training, and will take longer.

The largest notable change will be in the way you give orders. There are a lot of labs here, and it's a pain to have to check every single one for hidden orders and the like. Because of this, the only official medium for giving orders to a Packlord is via PM. Yes, this rules out MSN and other chat programs as well. Any orders posted in your lab will be ignored until they are PM'd, unless the orders are written in a pre-arranged (and confirmed by the Packlord) single Orders topic. Any previous Orders topics are moot until you ask Morkskittar to re-officialize them.

Also, there will be no giving out of statlines of non-beasts. If you want the statline of a Squig, you can either look it up (be warned that MP statlines are NOT the same as the Warhammer ones) or guess. This makes the game more unpredictable, as you don't always know a creature's exact strengths and weaknesses until you mutate it.

Lastly, we would like to emphasize that vital operations, such as brain and heart transplants, go wrong frequently, often with dire effects for the beast. Attemtping these is not usually recommended. Also, it is asked that if it is at all possible, please use the mutation form.

Also note that (I'm serious this time!) injuries will be given out more often.

Second lastly (:P), Mork will be very busy this week, and will not show up tomorrow or Wednesday at all, so you'll have to wait on some updates sent in. ;)

Two things

first, can i still run my lab in the same way, hyperlinking each research to one thread?

second, exploding puffins can be based on my bomb rats :P

I had thought this was the required method anyway?!

so does that include my 'List of things' topic i made a couple of months back? and does that in turn mean i can continue working as i was (in regard to this rule anyway), just posting the topics then hyperlinking them to the 'List of things' topic? (yeah i know, same questions as Twitch  )

Contact me privately about it. :P

And yes, some of you have been doing that, which is why (believe it or not) your researches finished earlier. Others have just kind of offhandedly thrown it at me... and now, I am requiring it to be done the way you have been doing it anyway. :P

And there really aren't significant ruleschanges...

And as rationale for the changes, it is mainly to cut down on our work, and encourage creativity. As many have said, it makes the game much more fun when you think things through (it will also prevent people from sending more than the max number of researches at me a week... :P)

And as for the PM-only system, this is to prevent Packlords from having to read through every new post in every single lab. It's a pain when you have to check there every day, when half of the topics don't apply to you. We also want some form of official way to keep track of things, which MSN doesn't offer. :P

right, one last question, just to clarify. if we have an orders topic can we continue working the way we have? (ie. posting in our labs and linking the topics to the orders thread?) all it says is that topics dont need to be pmed if you have one :P

Drachau - March 18, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
Mork, did you get that new expedition form I PMd you?

Sure as hell hope so, since I didnt save it >.<

Morkskittar - March 19, 2008 12:20 AM (GMT)
Yes, I did, and I put it into the rules... :P

So I guess read that too!

And to answer Undead_Rat... yes they can function in the same way... however, be aware that PM's tend to get done faster (not through any conscious thought, but the inboxes often get checked before we go scrounging around labs). And it might be necessary to poke the appropriate profile sometimes...
