Chapter 5
Back to the City
I woke up the day after my acceptance as Twitch’s apprentice and looked out the side of the Caravan that had taken me and Twitch from his lab back to the city of the Hell Pit. I looked to the side of the nest of hay that I had made into a bed and there was a note next to it. I opened the letter and read its contents.
Caseph,
meet me inside your father’s lab we are going to get this thing your father wrote about in his letter I have arranged for transport wagons to come and take the contents of the lab to mine, it is no longer safe for you to stay here so we are moving all of your father’s, now your possessions. I also had the wagons bring supplies.
I rubbed my eyes wearily and stared at the city that used to be my home, I will return to this city once I am a great moulder. Time to start getting up and ready for the day. I stepped off the wagon and got my gear ready I had a the poisoned sword and blades that I got from my father and fastened them around my waist, I also put a holster that had a semi automatic pistol that shot bullets that had bits of warpstone in them, I received this from Twitch who seemed to like technology and firearms. I walked from the wagon back into the streets of the Hell Pit. I wonder what my father had in store for me in his lab. Well we would soon find out. I walked in and out through the crowed of adult Skaven my light brown fur started to stand on end due to the cold temperature in the city, my snout was also feeling the sting of the cold, I loved it. I learned to love the cold since I grew up here in the hell pit. I finally got to my fathers lab, which already had the door open, and 2 guard rats that were hired by Twitch. They looked at me curiously but let me through, Twitch must have said let the shortest skaven runt through, my youngness and my made me stand out from being short from adult skaven standards but tall for runts. I walked into the lab still wondering what surprises were in store for me inside the lab.

Chapter 6
Skarai
“Finally up-up are you Caseph” said Twitch.
“Yes-yes Master,” I replied
“Well lets take a look-look at this thing your-your father was talking about in-in his letter shall-shall we?” I nodded in agreement.
I reached into the pouch and pulled out the key to my father’s office and unlocked it followed his directions by going to his desk and retrieving the key from the top right drawer and retrieved the key to the containment room. When I reached the door of the containment room I inserted the key and turned it loud sounds of heavy metal doors opening and unlocking several high tension locks. The hiss as the door slid open brought an eerie feeling to the room as Twitch looked into the room with a very intrigued expression on his face. When we looked in we saw nothing. Curious I walked into the room as I took one step into the room I heard a whoosh as a large clawed fist crashed down just inches ahead of me. Its owner was a rat ogre with a normal head but had 6 arms one of them had a salamander head for a hand as well as 2 that were bladed 1 that was clawed and 2 that had razor sharp talons. He also had 4 legs and 2 tails with blade attached to them. I ran to the other side of the large room but the creature sped ahead of me and stopped right ahead of me with lightning speed. Twitch was no where to be seen in the room.
“WHO ARE YOU?” the creature bellowed in a loud voice.
“You-you-you can talk-talk?” I said franticly.
“Indeed I can, now answer my question!” the creature hissed.
“My-my name is-is Caseph this was my fathers lab but he had been killed and told me to that-that I should find something special he left me here-here,” I replied in my still panicked state .
“You are-are the son of Klawreek?” he said questioningly while easing up and seeming less hostile.
“Yes-yes that was my father’s name, how do you speak and on top-top of that you speak like skaven you-you do.” I asked seeming in less danger.
“Inheritors, Your father and I-I were great comrades he was a great moulder who was high ranked Inheritor while I was a warlord employed with my clan during the-the civil war on the side of the In-Inheritors was mortally wounded in battle my clan was slain and-and your father offered me-me life, he had my brain implanted into the body-body of this rat ogre.” He explained.
“My father has been killed by-by an Eshin Assassin and told me I could find someone to trust and protect me in this room.” I said trying once more to explain why I was here.
“Do you have a name-name?” I asked.
“My old name died when my old body died my new name is one your father gave me, Skarai.” Skarai knelt before me.
“I am loyal to your father and by his-his wishes I am loyal to you, for now, we will see if you-you are worthy of my loyalty.” He said.
“Sounds agreeable to-to me,” I said grinning
Suddenly there was a loud noise outside. We both looked outside there was an fight going on between Twitch’s rats and a marauding band of rats as well as 3 rat ogres and a powerful looking moulder.
“Time to show me what you-you are capable of-of Skarai” I said cunningly
“Time for you to prove your-your worth young rat-rat.” He hissed as he charged out of the building. I grabbed a bladed whip off the wall of the lab and ran out.
When I got outside Skarai was already into the thick of the battle he swatted a mass of the attacking skaven with his big arm as well as cut a bloody swath in the ranks of them with his bladed hand. I got into the fight as well trying to get behind skarai and cover his back. I will protect him as much as possible he was a close friend of my father thus a close friend of mine I thought to myself. By no means was I a novice fighter I had always relied on technique and skill over brawn in my many street fights in the hell pit to survive when I was little and my father was off fighting in the pits. I drew by sword and a dagger and moved quietly behind a skaven that was about to stab skarai in the leg with a spear, I ran him through with my blade and then turned around and slashed another across the throat with the dagger. I felt a cold edge scratch my side and then spun around another rat had attacked me from behind. I took the moment to spin into his chest and knock him into the air where I took the moment to stab him in the throat with the knife. The enemy started to retreat but then I heard someone yelling, it was the enemy moulder.
“I CHALLENGE YOU TO A MOULDERING DUEL!” he screamed as he pointed with his claw at Skarai and I.

Chapter 7
The First Duel
“Accept your challenge with Skarai I do.” I hissed.
“I’LL RIP THEM TO SHREDS!” Skarai bellowed still intoxicated by the scent of blood and the craze of the battle.
“Settle your-yourself Skarai, you will need control and a-a tactful mind for this fight.”
Skarai and I lined up with the challengers.
“To the death it shall be.” The moulder said.
His beast a common rat ogre charged but something was not right, one of his arms was a cylindrical figure covered with a cloth. Realization hit me, I quickly pulled out a common whip and ran toward the already charging Skarai.
“STOP SKARAI IT-IT’S A TRAP!” I yelled.
I used the whip to grab on to Skarai’s arm which I used to pull my self up onto his arm where I then leaped infront of his face as the beast leveled his barrel shaped arm and fired with great accuracy a jezail that would have shot Scarai in the head but instead hit me on the right part of my chest. I tumbled onto the ground in pain. Skarai looked at me for a second stunned then looked at the rat ogre who was reloading the jezail. He became infuriated and charged with a speed I had never seen before and hit the rat ogre head on. All I could see were limbs flying everywhere and the head of the now dead rat ogre held in Skarai’s mouth by the throat. Skarai then picked up the moulder and crushed him in his mighty hand. I felt blood running down my side onto my paws. I fell into the dirt of the streets outside my father’s lab as Twitch was calling for a medic into the battlefield. I passed out with several questions in my head. For one who attacked us and 2 how had they manage to clear the normally busy streets of skaven on this section of the hell pit, They must have been very powerful to do that. I was then out cold…

Chapter 8
My new Friend
I awoke back in the caravan wagon and felt like I did the day after Twith’s automaton smashed me against the wall, horrible. My armor and cloak were removed and over my brown fur were bandages that covered my whole chest. I tried to sit up and succeeded in making my chest hurt even more. I stepped out of the Caravan and saw Twitch walking towards me as he saw me emerging as well as Skarai standing next to the wagon.
“Good morning young rat-rat took you-you long enough to wake-wake” Twitch said.
“My apologies my-my master” I replied
“I had interrogated a rat and he-he confessed to being sent by the Underlord, I believe it’s no longer safe to-to stay here-here.” He said as he went back to talk to the troops that had survived the small skirmish. Then Skarai approached me.
“Caseph, I-I had never been one-one to give thanks but-but I am truly grate-grateful for you saving my life that shot could have killed me but you took it-it for me. Why did you-you do it-it?” Skarai said as he looked at me through inquisitive eyes.
“If my father and you were-were good friends, you are my friend. Unlike most skaven, I guess because of the way my-my father raised me-me, I am-am far more trusting and-and caring then most rats. One of my weaknesses,” I said grinning.
“You have-have earned my loyalty Caseph, along with my friendship.” He said as he knelt before me. This marked one of the most important accomplishments in my mouldering career, my first beast.

For next time….
